What is Compost
Gardeners and farmers have used compost to help their plats and crops for many years, with evidence of use going back to 2000 BC in China.
Compost itself is formed from the break down of biodegradable matter. It’s an excellent way of making your garden bloom by improving the texture, aeration and structure of your soil. The compost adds nutrients to the soil stimulating microorganisms which release phosphorus, potassium and nitrogen making your soil healthy and balanced.
Even if you don’t take much pride in your garden, making compost will reduce your household waste considerably. 30% of landfill sites in the UK are made up of household waste that could be recycled by making compost. With some local authorities now charging for the pick up of garden waste there is no excuse for not making use of this valuable and green resource.
